Luxury vinyl flooring that has a wood-plastic composite or a stone plastic composite core is waterproof. WPC and SPC flooring feel similar underfoot to the flooring it mimics. But WPC flooring is more comfortable since it contains a foaming agent. Both types of rigid core flooring can be wet for an extended period without structural change. That means the flooring does not swell or sustain any kind of damage, and lifespan is not shortened. Waterproof luxury vinyl is ideal for basements, including those that are usually damp or that may become flooded.
LVP and LVT, including brands with a rigid core, are usually installed as a floating floor that needs no attachment to the subfloor. These planks and tiles are designed to click and lock together. Padding, which provides cushioning and noise reduction, is pre-attached to the flooring or placed on the subfloor during installation. A vapor barrier can be included if moisture is present. While floating floors are the norm, glue down flooring is also available.
