Both are luxury vinyl flooring with the same benefits, such as waterproof and durability, so the only difference is the construction. One is cut into strips and mounted on boards, called luxury vinyl plank; the other form refers to when it’s cut into square, tile-sized pieces that can be used with or without grout, LVT.
Both can be used however you wish; although mainly associated with hardwood, some people use LVP for stone echoes also, while LVT can be used to produce a wood-look tile that's trending today.
About luxury vinyl
Also referred to as LVF, this product offers realistic wood, stone, and tile images. They are all taken with high-definition photography; they are vibrant and accurate with knots, wormholes, grains, swirls, and veining variations; tile piece colors and patterns are brilliant!
Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. Finishes are available in matte, gloss, and high gloss colors.
Other benefits include:
1. Durability. This is a layered product, which makes it five times thicker than the original vinyl. At the top is a transparent, robust, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs at the top. On top of that is a clear urethane finish that adds extra strength and shine.
2. Waterproof. This is made of entirely waterproof materials, in this case, vinyl, to be submerged or spilled on without consequence.
3. Low maintenance. All LVF needs is regular sweeping and periodic mopping to keep it in shape.
4. Uncomplicated installation. This is especially so when it's a floating floor where the pieces click, mat, and then hover over the subfloor without adhesives.
